The 16th International Exhibition Mir Stekla’2014

A major event for the glass industry was the 16th edition of International Exhibition for Glass Products, Manufacturing, Processing and Finishing Technology Mir Stekla’2014 held on 4-6 June 2014 at Expocentre Fairgrounds.

This year the tradeshow was organized by Expocentre jointly with National United Council of the Glass Industry Enterprises StekloSouz. According to Deputy General Director of Expocentre ZAO Mikhail Tolkachev, “Expocentre and the main industry association have joined their efforts to promote development of Russia’s glass industry via trade fairs.” The show ran under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

On his part, President of StekloSouz Viktor Osipov said, “Being a federal industry association, our task is to provide every possible support in development of the Mir Stekla project and raise its prestige. We will strive to make Mir Stekla one of the best trade fairs in Europe and, perhaps, in the world.”

“The tradeshow slogan is “All is of glass and all is for glass”, i.e. we try to include in this project everything concerning the glass industry”, said the President of StekloSouz. In his opinion, “this creative union” between StekloSouz and Expocentre ZAO will stimulate a rapid development of the glass industry and increase demand for all kinds of mechanical equipment relating to the glass industry.

Exposition

This year the exposition included a whole range of glass production demonstrating unusual properties of glass. On the exhibition space of 5,095 net sq m Expocentre hosted 221 companies from 22 countries among them 79 Russian exhibitors, which presented advanced ideas and latest technologies in the glass industry.

A lot of well-known foreign and Russian companies took part in the trade fair, among them Von Ardenne, Bottero, Sisecam, RHI Glas GmbH, Lahti Precision OY, GLASTON, BDF Industries SPA, Italcarrelli, Landglass Technology, Saint-Gobain Sefpro, Domanovsky Production and Trade Plant, Zippe, Salavatsteklo, Saratovstroysteklo, KAMI, Yuta, Meran, Adem, Brinolli, RuSail plus many others.

Italy arranged its national pavilion involving 30 companies, among them Alu Pro s.r.l., Antonini s.r.l., Bottero s.p.a., Gimav-Italian Association of Glass Processing Machinery and Accessory Suppliers, Ocmi-Otg s.p.a. and others.

In 2014 Italian companies outlined important strategic aims such as development of construction and production of medical containers. For Italian exhibitors Mir Stekla is of particular importance as they consider Russia a strategic market.

Official partners of the exhibition were KAMI Association and Quartz JSC.

It was Mir Stekla where a lot of leading market players showcased their innovative products and developments for the first time.

KAMI Association put on display latest technologies made by the leading global manufacturer of the glass processing machinery – Italian company Bottero. The Bottero machines are designed for grinding edges after glass cutting to improve the quality of glass window panes and for further heat treatment.

REVA film, an innovative product in triplex production from Yuta company, aroused a keen interest among specialists. High quality REVA film from RCN is a revolutionary solution for safety glass – triplex. It has long service life, perfect transparence and bakes at high temperatures to get a high level of transparence.

Another exhibitor Leybold Optics showcased latest technology and equipment to apply multifunctional coatings for architectural glass, screens and monitors, packaging films, reflectors of all types, optical components for high-precision instruments, touch screens, information security systems and other high tech products.

Glaspo is one of the leading and fastest growing companies of the glass industry in Poland. The company showed its developments in the field of flat, tempered, bent, laminated, automotive glass and other popular segments. Taking part in the Mir Stekla exhibition for the first time, Glaspo held a presentation, and a scientific and technical seminar on new technology n’glass “Technology of manufacturing glass products n’glass and hydrophobic coating”.

At the Mir Stekla’2014 exhibition Palina Coatings, a manufacturer of water-based coatings, presented two new products from the range of PaliGlass paints for glass: paint for decorating glass containers and flat glass roller coatings. A large number of coated bottles, glassware and flat glass demonstrated properties of decorative paints and varnishes presented by Palina Coatings.

Saint-Gobain Sefpro offered specialists container glass, flat panel displays, rolled glass, float glass, enamels, insulation fiber and others.

The main product displayed by Grenzenbach was energy efficient architectural glass used for commercial and residential buildings. This glass, covered with a thin film layer, controls the flow of solar energy through the finished window or façade element. Grenzebach is a market leader in manufacturing cold end equipment for flat glass production. In 2014 the company put into operation a prototype unit for applying PVD glass coating.

Visitors to special exposition - ArtGlass Salon could learn about extraordinary properties of glass and the most unexpected and creative ideas in interior decoration. Well known masters of stained glass, glass painting, fusing and lampwork presented their works and various art work techniques. The ArtStudio MalinoDesign masters using different types of wood, copper and bronze demonstrated interior and décor items, original furniture, custom lighting fixtures for home and garden and others.

The number of visitors to the Mir Stekla’2014 exhibition amounted to 6,780 people, 94% of whom were industry experts.

A rich programme of accompanying events enabled its participants to discuss the current state of the industry and come to solutions concerning its development trends.

The key event of the Mir Stekla’2014 programme was International forum on Glass and Modern Technology – the 21st Century.

Round table discussion on Main Trends in Fighting against Production and Use of Counterfeit Glass Products was an integral part of the forum.

President of StekloSouz Viktor Osipov took part in the discussion and told about negative impact of counterfeit products supplied to the market and their effects on people’s health, Russia’s economy and image. The participants spoke on such topics as “Fighting against counterfeit and falsified products as a necessary condition for Russia’s industry survival”, “Topical issues on export and import of glass products using trademarks”, “Counterfeit glass – Counterfeit window – Counterfeit building. Safety concerns” and others.

Participants in International Conference on Issues Concerning Quality of Raw Materials for Glass Industry Enterprises discussed future development of Russia’s glass market.

President of StekloSouz Viktor Osipov spoke on future development of Russia’s glass market up to 2020. Participants in the conference suggested that Russia’s glass industry should become export-oriented from 2020.

Heads and directors of different organizations gave their reports at plenary meetings, among them TsNIIgeolnerud (Central Research Institute for Geology of Industrial Minerals), Otraslevoy Operator po Obrascheniyu s Otkhodami OAO, Salavatsteklo OAO, Glassware Technical Committee, Glass Recycling Company OOO, Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, Profglassdesign OOO, R&D Center Steklo-Gaz ZAO, Crimean Soda Plant PJSC, Saratov Glass Institute OAO, and other companies and enterprises.

OJCS Saratovstroysteklo organized the seminar on Energy Efficient Architectural Glass.

Imperia Congress and Exhibition Company and Expocentre ZAO held the 8th Forum of Directors “Furniture as a Business”. Over 200 delegates came from fifty cities to learn about latest trends of Russia’s furniture market and get recommendations from heads of well-established companies occupying a strong position under current challenging conditions.

The forum programme comprised plenary session Russian Furniture Business: Rolling with the Punches”, six master classes held by high skilled and well-known industry experts and round table discussion “Effective Interaction of Glass Facades and Furniture Manufacturers” with suppliers of glass fittings as the forum ran on the Mir Stekla territory.

The forum participants were such companies as IKEA, Ronikon, Hoff, Möbel & Zeit, Lazurit, Formula Divana, Angstrem, Felix, 8 Marta Furniture Factory, Zetta, Ormatek, Tri Kita Shopping Centre and others.

Yekaterina Bogacheva held master classes “Furniture Store: Techniques to Maximize Sales” and “Kid’s Store: Techniques to Maximize Sales”; Tatyana Sorokina held workshop “Building a Successful Distribution Network in the Region”.

The next 17th edition of International Exhibition Mir Stekla’2015 will run on 8-11 June 2015 at Expocentre Fairgrounds.
