On 8 June the Forum pavilion accommodated a gala opening of Mir Stekla’2009

On 8 June the Forum pavilion accommodated a gala opening of Mir Stekla’2009, the 11th International Exhibition for Glass Products, Manufacturing, Processing and Finishing Technology.

Mir Stekla is the key showcase of the achievements of the glass industry. Deputy Director General of Expocentre Mikhail Tolkachev welcomed the exhibitors and visitors of the show on behalf of Expocentre, a constant organizer of the exhibition. This year the exhibition is welcoming 291 companies from 24 countries. Hungary, Germany, Italy and China traditionally participate with their national displays.

In his speech at the opening ceremony the Honorary President of the Union of Architects of Russia Yury Gnedovsky stressed that despite the economic crisis Mir Stekla’2009 is a high quality event running on a large scale. For many years the Union of Architects of Russia has been cooperating with Expocentre in staging this exhibition and it is not by accident. The use of glass in modern architectural projects is expanding as this promising building material continues to meet the growing requirements of the architects regarding its quality, colour and other properties. Yury Gnedovsky expressed confidence that the 2009 edition of the Mir Stekla exhibition will offer a lot of new and interesting information to the builders and architects, and the next edition will be still larger and more substantial.

President of the Russian Union of Architects Andrey Bokov is sure that glass is the leader among the construction materials. Load-bearing and decorative, multi layered and multi level, in new shapes and colours glass is an all-purpose material encouraging innovative solutions and leading the development of the construction industry.

Welcoming the exhibitors and visitors to Mir Stekla’2009 Deputy Head of the Department of International and Interregional Relations of the Complex for Architecture, Construction, Development and Reconstruction of Moscow Nikolai Danilov mentioned that the Moscow-City Business Centre, which is being built near Expocentre Fairgrounds, is demonstrating the applications of glass in construction. Moscow continues to grow, and it is glass that creates the identity and unique colour of its buildings.

President of D. Mendeleyev University of Chemical Technology of Russia Pavel Sarkisov said that by upholding Russian traditions of glass-making Mir Stekla’2009 gives an insight into the future of the glass industry, which is being created in the laboratories of glass manufacturers and in the applied research and development institutes. In the near future innovative ideas such as energy-efficient glass, energy-generating glass and other innovations will be translated into practice and will find wide application; and a considerable contribution to this process will be made by Mir Stekla’2009.

‘The Mir Stekla exhibition is a key show for glass makers and the manufacturers of equipment and materials for the Russian glass industry,’ noted President of the Glass Union Valery Tarbeyev in his welcome address. He said that the exhibition provides guidelines for the development of the glass industry. This year the exhibition is playing a very important role as a platform for negotiations and generation of new business, for professional debates and experience exchange, for discussion of prospects of the Russian glass market and ways to cope with the difficulties imposed by the crisis.
