Mir Stekla’2009, the 11th International Exhibition for Glass Products, Manufacturing, Processing and Finishing Technology
On 8 – 11 June Expocentre held the eleventh edition of Mir Stekla, one of the largest glass industry exhibitions in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe. Co-organized by Expocentre and the Russian Union of Architects, the event ran under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
Every year Mir Stekla confirms its status as Russia’s most significant project for the glass industry, demonstrating ever new possibilities for production and application of glass.
Despite the current economic recession, Mir Stekla’2009 was a large-scale high-quality event with about 300 companies from 22 countries participating. The Exhibition was attended by 8 600 visitors, and the total number of visits reached 14 000.
The participation of many foreign manufacturers (over 180 companies) is evidence of the event’s high international status, deservedly recognized by UFI - the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and RUEF - the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs. Mir Stekla’2009 comprised national stands by Hungary, Germany, Italy and China. On a floor space of approx. 19 000 sqm the Exhibition featured the latest developments of the glass industry.
ART GLASS, the 4th International Salon of Art and Decorative Glass, traditionally became the aesthetic focus of the event, showcasing the splendor of glassware, interior decoration items, large-scale pictures, stained-glass windows and mosaic panels. The visitors had an opportunity to see a complete range of art and decorative glass items in their entire splendor.
To help the Mir Stekla’2009 exhibitors make their participation most efficient, the Exhibition organizers offered free services such as a practical training seminar on Effective Exhibiting, and a specially arranged Business Centre suitably equipped for carrying out negotiations in a comfortable atmosphere. This year Expocentre has given professional visitors a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with expositions free of charge, without buying an entrance ticket.
The Hungarian Business Forum was held as part of the Mir Stekla’2009 event programme. The Forum focused on the importance of special glass application in construction according to the energy-saving technology.
High-ranking officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in Moscow; Mr János Együd, Chairman of the Hungarian Glass Industry Association; Mr Sándor Fegyverneki, Chairman of the National Joint Council of the Glass-Manufacturing Enterprises and Chairman of the Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Committee took part in the opening ceremony.
The Forum not only highlighted the industry’s problems but also covered issues relating to innovations, financing of know-hows, energy-efficiency and modernization programmes.
A record-high attendance of over 100 people reflected the huge interest the Forum enjoyed from industry specialists. The subjects devoted to the success of the Hungarian programme on panel apartment upgrading aroused particular interest among the delegates.
Apart from the Forum, the Mir Stekla’2009 event programme also included the Conference, High-Tech Glass Products in Glazing of Buildings: Manufacture and Use; and the Round Table Discussion Russia’s Construction Industry: From Licensing To Self-Regulation.
The third day of the Exhibition was marked with an award ceremony to honour the winners of the contest, traditionally held by the Exhibition organizers. This year the list of the contest winners comprised seventy-five participating companies from Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Slovenia and Ukraine. The expert commission of the Russian Union of Architects assessed the entries under the following criteria: architectural merits, uniqueness and novelty, artistic merits, and best stand design.
IWF Expo (Germany), GIMAV (Italy) and the Hungarian Association of Glass-Manufacturing Enterprises were awarded certificates for active participation in organizing the Exhibition.
Mir Stelka’2009 has gained particular significance as a platform for carrying out negotiations and signing contracts, holding professional discussions and exchanging experience.
The next edition of Mir Stekla will take place at Expocentre Fairgrounds on June 7-10, 2010.
