The 2nd International Forum on Translucent Structures. Windows. Facades 2019 was opened at the Mir Stekla 2019 international exhibition at Expocentre held as part of the Russian Construction Week.

The Forum participants have discussed topical issues of application of glass units in the Russian construction sector and regulatory framework improvement to regulate problems arising in using such units in construction.

The event was organised by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee for Entrepreneurship in Construction, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Committee for Technical Regulation, Standardisation and Conformity Assessment, the Russian Designers Association, the Russian Glass Makers Association, the National Association of Building Industry Companies, the Agency of Innovative Strategic Technologies, and Expocentre, with official support of the Russian Ministry of Construction, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the relevant committee of the Russian State Duma.

The plenary session was held by Viktor Novoselov, President of the Russian Union of Designers. Vadim Ryzhov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Glass Makers Association, reviewed the situation in the Russian glass industry. He pointed out that over the past 15 years Russia had built 12 glassworks. According to him, today, the glass industry is an advanced and up-to-date sector of the Russian economy.

"The present-day glass making capacities may for all intents and purposes meet the requirements in energy-efficient and other types of glass", said the head of the professional association. According to him, the overall flat glass production in Russia is about 250,000,000 m2/year.

About 50% of the produced glass is exported, which, according to the expert, bears witness of the global recognition of high quality of Russian glass products. Glass industry was one of the first to have implemented the import substitution program. "As it is, in the last 15-17 years, the glass industry had been restarted. We have amassed a lot of expertise and are prepared to meet any challenges", said Vadim Ryzhov.

The Russian translucent structures market analysis was presented by Nikolay Gavrilov-Kremichev, editor-in-chief of the Modern Engineering Structures Information and Publishing Centre.

Experts and representatives of leading glassworks and construction companies took part in the discussion of technical regulation and standards of glass use in construction.
