Press Release on 14th International Exhibition Mir Stekla’2012

The 14th International Exhibition for Glass Products, Manufacturing, Processing and Finishing Technology Mir Stekla (World of Glass) 2012 was successfully held at Expocentre Fairgrounds on 13-16 June 2012. This major glass industry event for Russia, the CIS countries and Eastern Europe was organized by Expocentre ZAO and the Russian Union of Architects, and held under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.

High international reputation of Mir Stekla is confirmed by the Approved Event logos of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF).

Speaking at the opening ceremony A.P. Korotkov, Deputy Managing Director of the RF CCI, stressed that Mir Stekla is one of the major international trade fairs, and broad participation of Russian and international exhibitors in it reflects the importance and high reputation of the event, which for many years has served the development of the Russian glass industry.

The participants in the event were welcomed by G.D. Sokolov, Vice-President of the Russian Union of Architects. He noted that the rich and interesting exhibition and the large number of participants suggested that glass making industry would continue to develop while the sphere of application for its products, particularly in construction, would expand.

Mir Stekla’2012 put on display the latest achievements of the glass industry, whose products are in demand in a growing number of sectors. The exhibitors in the Forum Pavilion were showcasing a whole range of glass products from bottles to works of art made of glass. Pavilion No. 1 was demonstrating modern equipment, technologies and hardware for manufacturing, processing and decorating glass.

This year’s show was very productive. On the show floor of more than 5 700 sq. m the Mir Stekla exhibition accommodated 281 companies from 25 countries. Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic presented their national pavilions there.

Among the exhibitors were leaders of the global glass industry including AGC, Guardian, Glaston, Saint Gobain, Sisecam, Emhart Glass. First-time exhibitors were Wilcox Corporation, Special Ceramics.

The Russian glass industry was represented by 96 domestic manufacturers including Salavatsteklo, Ritsteklo, Magnezit Group, Podolsk Ogneupory, OAO Soda.

Mir Stekla has become a popular platform for business communication, professional opinion-sharing and discussions at numerous conferences, round-table discussions, seminars and presentations traditionally run as part of the exhibition.

One of the key subjects of Mir Stekla’2012 was low-emissivity glass in construction and architecture.

The Non-Profit Association of Low-Emissivity Glass Manufacturers and ZAO Expocentre staged a number of events highlighting this subject as part of the exhibition.

At the Urban Planning – Architechture – Design – Expertise. Moscow’2012 Conference industry specialists discussed the development of the Moscow Agglomeration within the new boundaries, strategies for urban planning in the capital, important issues of construction expertise in Russia, energy-efficient technologies in design and construction, and many other issues.

The Active House. Energy-Efficient Materials and Technologies Conference featured reports on designing translucent cladding structures with a specific level of thermal insulation, on managing energy efficiency, as well as the first Active House in Russia and its construction and operation. The reports highlighted energy-saving technologies for a cottage, cladding structures for passive houses, modern energy-efficient glazing and glass units.

Such major industry events as Mir Stekla create new opportunities to communicate with leading specialists from various fields, to share experience and discuss key trends and new ideas in the industry.

Mir Stekla’2012 also featured an international competition for the Best Consumer Qualities Award and for the Successful Promotion of Quality Goods Award. The competition was held by ANO Soyuzexpertiza of the RF CCI and Expocentre ZAO to promote high-quality goods to the Russian and global markets. During the competition experts tested and assessed consumer qualities of the entries.

The first prize in the Best Consumer Quality category was made to Magnezit Group OOO and the KAMI Company. The second prize went to Ferro Performance Materials OOO. The latter also received the Successful Promotion of Quality Goods Award.

The Mir Stekla’2012 exhibition hosted the award ceremony of the 2nd Russian Glass in Architecture Competition organized by the Russian Union of Architects in association with official partners – the Technocom Company and the Astarta Group of Companies, and a partner – the StekloProm Firm. The competition was held with support from the Moscow City Government Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning, Moscow Institute of Architecture and Expocentre ZAO.

43 projects from Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Ulyanovsk, Pskov and Ekaterinburg were submitted for the competition.

The winners were presented with 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze Diplomas, while the nominees of the competition, leading glass manufacturers and construction companies that had implemented the projects submitted by the entrants received Special Diplomas from the Russian Union of Architects.

The ceremony closed by the Union of Glass Manufacturers and partners of the competition presenting their diplomas to the winners.

The National Award – the grand prize of the competition – for the best implemented project was made to Zemtsov, Kondiain and Partners Architectural Firm.

The winners in the Construction category are: Studio 44 Architectural Company and Basis Project LTD – Golden Diplomas, Total Kuzembayev Architectural Company and PPF A. Len OOO – Silver Diplomas, and Saturn Ê OOO and Arch Group OOO – Bronze Diplomas.

The Projects category Golden Diploma was made to Severin Project Sev.P.Project OOO, a Sliver Diploma went to IP Tarasenko V.S. and PSF Finist OOO, Bronze Diplomas to Pskovgrazhdanproject Institute OAO and ITHAKA-Archtecture and Design OOO.

The Russian Union of Architects presented its Special Diplomas to Studio 17 Architectural Company, Architectural Factory 32 December OOO, NT-Project OOO, MP IRG NizhegorodgrazhdanNIIpoject and Simbirskproject OOO.

The Union of Glass Manufacturers gave its Diplomas to ARST Architectural Company, Atrium Architectural Company, MAO-SREDA OOO and GUP MNIIP Mosproject-4.

M.V. Posokhin Mospoject-2 and Erick van Egeraat Design Company were presented with Diplomas by the Technocom Company.

The Astarta Group of Companies made its Diploma in the Soul Ecology category to Studio 44 Architectural Company.

The StekloProm Company awarded its Diplomas to Severin Project Sev.P.Project OOO, IP Tarasenko V.S., PSF Finist OOO, Pskovgrazhdanproject, ITHAKA-Architecture and Design, the Astarta Group of Companies, M.V. Posokhin Mosproject-2 and Erick Van Egeraat Design Company.

All entrants received glass gifts from the SteckloProm Company.

The competition entries were on display in the Forum Pavilion throughout the exhibition.

The 14th International Mir Stekla Exhibition has made a considerable contribution into the development of the Russian glass industry and encouraged promotion of the best technological solutions for glass manufacturing to the Russian market.

This year the attendance of the exhibition had grown by 10% and was more than 9 500 people. The show attracted a large number of specialists who accounted for 95% of the total attendance. The exhibitors achieved most of their goals, made beneficial contracts and generated new business.

The 15th International Mir Stekla Exhibition will take place at Expocentre Fairgrounds on 17-20 June 2013.
